Attack On Titan is an incredibly influential and popular manga and anime. Its story and themes on what it means to truly be free have captivated audiences far and wide. The manga, and author Hajime Isayama, have a lot to say about the meaning of life, death, and the state of the world in the story and our own world.

With how influential Attack On Titan is and with how much it has to say, it is no wonder fans continue to reference and quote the story. However, not all quotes are made equal; some can be downright cringe-worthy to read.

10 "You Know What I Hate Most In This World? People Who Aren't Free. They're No More Than Cattle."
The main protagonist of Attack On Titan, Eren Yeager, often refers to people inside the walls as animals in cages. It is one of his driving motivations to be free from the walls surrounding him. Eren believes those who stay complacent and do not fight are like animals sent to slaughter.
That said, Eren's penchant for animal metaphors can come off as the ramblings of an angst-riddled teenager. While it does give insight into how he views the world, it also shows how immature Eren's thoughts are and can leave fans cringing when they hear them.
9 "I Wouldn't Mind Being Eaten, As Long As It's By A Scorchingly Hot Lady Titan."
Pixis is the commander of the Garrison in Attack On Titan. He is known mainly for his humor and alcoholism. Pixis is often used in the story to help bring comedy to otherwise bleak surroundings. With that context, this quote is not too out of left field for his character.

However, it is still an undeniably weird quote in a show known for its somber tone and ever-present Titan threat. Pixis may be a character often used to bring levity to a scene, but that doesn't change how cringe-worthy this quote is.
8 "I'll Tear You Apart. Once My Hand Heals, I'll Rip You Apart. Tear You To Shreds. Rip You Into Tiny Pieces And Eat You."
This quote on its own sounds incredibly threatening. Eren is telling Reiner and Bertholdt that he intends to tear them limb from limb and then devour them, much in the same way a pure Titan would.
Of course, this threat becomes far less menacing when fans remember Eren is basically defenseless while he's healing. Reiner and Bertholdt currently have the upper hand against both Eren and Ymir. Instead of being threatening, this quote sounds more like the angry shouts of a trapped animal.
7 "Once I'm Dead, I Won't Be Able To Remember You. So I'll Win No Matter What. I'll Live No matter What."
Mikasa has been devoted to Eren ever since he saved her and pushed her to fight. Her bond with him is strong, and she's heavily dedicated to him and his well-being. Mikasa's steadfast loyalty to Eren can be heartfelt and inspiring to many viewers.
However, many fans also see Mikasa's devotion to Eren as one-sided and almost obsessive. To many viewers, living solely for just the memory of her friend can make Mikasa sound too co-dependent. Depending on how fans look at it, this dedication could be heart-warming or cringe-inducing.
6 "I Disposed Of Some Dangerous Beasts — Mere Animals That Just Happened To Resemble Humans."
Eren often uses dehumanizing language to refer to anybody he considers an enemy. This shows that he views those who stand against him as lesser and not even worth considering as human. This quote Eren says as a child when defending his actions in killing the men who kidnapped Mikasa highlights his behavior.

However, to some viewers, it can come off as unhinged. This is a child who just murdered two men. Even in self-defense, the dehumanizing language does nothing to make the audience empathize with Eren. This quote shows another facet of Eren's edgy personality that tends to come off as cringe-filled rather than justified.
5 "Gotta Marry Her."
Reiner is one of the main antagonists in Attack On Titan. He's a Warrior from Marley and an extremely competent Soldier and fighter. In Season 2 specifically, Reiner and Bertholdt act as the enemies hiding in plain sight.
So it is a little weird when Reiner, the fierce and competent soldier, sees Christa rip her dress to create a bandage for him and immediately flushes and internally declares his desire to marry her. The line comes out of nowhere in the scene. It's a tense moment, with Reiner having just survived a bite wound to the arm. While meant to lighten the scene, this line can make many viewers cringe.
4 "Look Around, Eren, At All These Big-Ass Trees."
Levi is one of the many characters who often gets the best lines in the manga and anime. He is often snarky and stern and has a solid moral compass that makes his dialogue entertaining and intriguing. Of course, not every line a character says will immediately be a quotable hit, but this line is bizarre.
The context of the scene does help somewhat. Levi and his squad are in a forest with massive trees, so it is not like this quote is coming from nowhere. However, this does not make the line any less clunky.
3 "You're Either Incompetent Or You're Spineless Cowards. How Pathetic. You Can Just Sit Here And Suck On Your Fingers. Yeah, Do That."
Mikasa is an intimidating figure at the best of times. She can be downright scary when she is mad. It would be expected for the dialogue to reflect Mikasa's cutthroat personality, and for the most part, it does.
However, this quote from Mikasa loses some of that edge and authority with its last two sentences. Telling them to suck on their fingers is a strange way of rebuking someone for being a coward. Though the line references a child sucking on their thumb, it sounds forced and can cause the viewers to cringe or shake their heads.
2 "No, I Don't Want That — Mikasa Finding Another Man. I Want Her To Think About Me And No One Else For The Rest Of My Life! Even After I Die, I Want To Be At The Front Of Her Mind For A While — Ten Years At Least."
This is one of Eren's last lines in Attack On Titan. At the end of the world, Eren is talking to Armin about all his choices to get them here, and then he loudly proclaims he wants Mikasa to only think about him forever.

Fans of the manga laughed at this line for weeks after it came out. This quote, made by a character who had shown himself to be an impressive and intimidating threat to all of humanity, made Eren look like a child whose toy was taken away from him. This made many a reader who had been excited about the last chapter cringe in distaste.
1 "Eren, Thank You... You Became A Mass Murderer For Our Sake... I Promise I Won't Let This Error Go To Waste."
In the final chapter of Attack On Titan, as everything is wrapping up, Eren and Armin have an honest and heartfelt conversation about everything that has happened. Eren explains his plan and what his goal was. Eren is a mass murderer. He committed near-omnicide. It would stand to reason Armin might be a little horrified at this prospect, regardless of whether it was done with him in mind or not.
Instead, Armin thanks him for becoming a mass murderer. This line gave many fans whiplash from the sheer absurdity of Armin thanking Eren for murdering people on a global scale. Though Isayama did confirm that Armin disapproved of Eren's mass murder, having Armin thank Eren for it is very cringe-worthy.
